Tim Bainey Jr. gets first Top-20 Finish in the #00 Dream Machine

 

 

Tim Bainey Jr. and his Aaron’s Racing Team came home with a strong run, and in the end, an 18^th place finish to show for it during the “Farmer Foods” 250 at Shenandoah Speedway last Thursday Night.

 

“We had a really good car tonight,” said Tim Jr. “We were fast in practice, qualified really well, and ran strong during the race. We did a lot of work since South Boston and it really paid off here at Shenandoah.”

 

The #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine showed 14^th on the overall practice charts, considering Tim Jr. and the team only ran 15 laps – that was quite impressive.

 

“Timmy was really not feeling well last night and this morning,” said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. “I told him to go out there and run a fast lap and we would let him sit out the rest of practice, and that’s exactly what he did.”

 

“He ran about 10 laps in the 15.70’s and 80’s on old tires, we were 10^th on the speed chart at the time, so we decided to park the car and get him rested up for the race.”

 

“The guys did a great job this week,” said Tim Jr. “I was really not feeling that great this morning. We changed a few things and needed to make sure we had the car right, and it was - we were really good today.”

 

Tim Jr. would qualify the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine 17^th for the night’s event. It was another very tight field of cars, as just .07 (7 hundredths) of a second separated Tim Jr. from a Top-10 starting position.

 

Tim Jr. would move the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine up through the field in the early stages of the race, after cycling through pit stops he had made his way up to the 11^th position before radioing the crew about a possible ignition or battery problem with the car.

 

The problem got worse and just after the halfway mark the car lost power, forcing Tim Jr. and the #00 Dream Machine to pit road where the crew did a great job replacing the battery with a new one and getting him back on track .

 

“That was a tough break,” said Tim Jr. “Something went wrong with either the alternator, or the wiring shorted out – we’re really not sure yet. But it drained all the power and we lost a few laps when we came to pit road to change it. The guys did a great job, but it’s not an easy switch to make during the race.”

 

Tim Jr. and the Aaron’s Racing Team would run strong the remainder of the event. The #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine ran in line with the top-10 cars throughout the event, but being laps down, Tim Jr. was careful to not interfere with the lead lap cars.

 

“I always try to give guys room, especially anytime we are off the lead lap. The car was really good, we even passed a few of those guys inside the top-10, but we did it very carefully – you don’t want to have anything happen when you’re not racing them for position. They remember that and that’s why most of these guys always race us clean.”

 

“Even with the battery problem, it was a pretty good night for the Aaron’s Team. We finished the race with a clean car, qualified well, ran fast, and saw we had a very capable car – we moved up inside the top-15 of the points and now we are looking forward to Madison – we finished 6^th out there last season – so we will try to improve on that!”
