Tim Bainey Jr. and the #00 Aaron’s Dream Team Finish 12th
at Radford
Tim Jr. and the #00 Aaron’s
Dream Team wrapped up a solid weekend with a 12th place finish
during the “Kroger 250” at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA.
“It was a pretty good
weekend for us,” said Tim Jr. “This was one of the toughest fields of the
season, there were a lot of southern teams here for the race, and all the
top northern teams – so coming home 12th was a pretty good
night.”
The #00 Aaron’s Dream
Machine was strong throughout the day, the team sat 8th on the
Speed Chart after the first practice session concluded.
“Timmy was really happy
with the car,” said Crew Chief Dan Bainey. “He really likes the place, and
it didn’t take us long to get him comfortable with the Dream Machine.”
In BF Goodrich Pole
Qualifying Tim Jr. would turn the track at a time of 16.11 seconds, placing
the Dream Machine 16th on the starting grid. Amazingly every car
that qualified broke the track record.
“I couldn’t believe how
tight the field was, we were less than one-tenth of a second from being 4th,”
said Tim Jr. “But that’s how its been most of the races this year, I’m just
really proud of our guys for the way we work together every week.”
At the drop of the green,
the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine appeared to be strong. Tim Jr. worked through
solid traffic for most of the first 20 laps until finally getting sorted out
into single file running.
Once in line Tim Jr.
radioed the crew about a problem with the brake system.
“When you have a brake
problem it always makes for a tough decision,” said Tim Jr. “You know that
if you come to pit road you are going to lose a few laps taking a look at
things – the most important thing is staying on the lead lap in these races
– and you hate to give that up when you’re not really sure of the problem.”
Tim Jr. finally did bring
the #00 Aaron’s Dream Machine to Pit Road just after lap 50 when the
vibration got to be too much, the crew found a loose wheel to be the
problem. They got it changed and sent him back to the track, but they lost
valuable track position in the time.
“It made for a long night
after that, but we never gave up on it,” said Tim Jr. “These kinds of nights
can really be a test, but the Aaron’s Dream Team pulled through with a solid
finish.”
The Aaron’s Dream Team did
pull through, over the next 200 laps Tim Jr. and the #00 Aaron’s Dream
Machine climbed all the way from 32nd up to 12th when
the checkered flag waved.
“In the end it was a good
night, it helped us in the points – it probably could have been a little
better, but it also could have been a lot worse. We’re still within reach of
getting into the top-15 of the point standings, really we still have a shot
at a top-10 spot– depending on how good the next two races go for us,” said
Tim Jr.
“We have two 7th
place finishes at Erie, if we can just pick that up a little --- it could be
a really fun weekend…” he finished with a smile.
With the finish Tim Jr. and
the Aaron’s Dream Team climbed to 17th in the Championship
Standings.
